an early seat of christianity in moray. predating the final selection of elgin as the site for the cathedral. along with spynie and kinnedar, birnie tells any important part of the church's pre-reformation history in moray. it is stilll in use today and evokes the simple splendour of worship in scotland. it is small and compact, devoid of ornament inside apart fromm some very beautiful small stained glass windows. magnificent norman arch.
